HI MJD! Is this legit? Apparently Witness shipped 800k copies in 2017 (pure sales)
https://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=6843829#p6843829
I can't find a source though, but if this is true, could this be another case of "massive" overshipping?

Hi Stephen!

Seems 100% legit to me, and yes Witness is unsurprisingly overshipped so far!

How is Witness at 1.9M already ? The sales were counterbalance the beginning and lately they were at 1M so how it went to 1.9M ?

Hi Pkuc01!

The whole methodology of Mediatraffic (I suppose it's where the 1m SPS comes from) is massively flawed. You can learn more about it with this example.

Hi Marie!

Yes, this edition was counted by virtually all charts / industry bodies around the world along with the original album. That was treated the same way in this article.

Hi MJD. I'm confused.
How an album (Like Teenage Dream) could get a new certification in us?
Does RIAA counts pure sales (Including digital, physical, shipments) and singles certification units?
That way Teenage Dream has sold 3,1 pure copies and 54m singles units with a 10:1 ratio would be 5,4m album sales.
8,5m total us sales eligible for 8×Platinum.
But what about non-certified tracks?
Also someone told me RIAA counts total streams +singles certified units+album pure sales but that is such a double counting streams.
If they count streams into the album's certification what is the ratio for spotify, youtube and apple music?
Invasion of Privacy by Cardi B has sold 193K pure copies in the us and has achieved 12.5m singles certified units.
In billboard sales it has sold 1,2m by now (the album). Before the album gets released chartdata on twitter said the album is eligible for Gold because Bodak Yellow was at 5×Platinum and Bartier Cardi at Platinum. 1.2m+0.6m=1.8m us sales since billboard sales contains streams and TEA.
But chartdata also said the album is eligible for 2×Platinum so how it works? Is there a double counting streams? If yes the album should be at +3m with pre-album release streams(The album had no physical releases yet).
Using the same method for Witness the album should be nearly-already eligible for Platinum.

Also what is the correct ratio for singles streams on spotify, youtube and apple music?
Before 2015 the ratio was 100:1 now is 150:1 but does it effects on singles released before 2015? I mean a single released in 2014 (Like Dark Horse) is still getting the 100:1 ratio?
Please help me I can't get any answers on media.

Hi Behzad!

At the moment the RIAA counts album sales + downloads of songs (ratio 1/10) + streams (both audio and video) of songs (ratio 1/1500). You can see all details here. Details for singles are here. Downloads / Streams of a song don't need to be certified on their own (as singles units) to be added to album's tallies.

Downloads and streams can added be certified for both the stand-alone song and the parent album. Invasion of Privacy is at 1,254,000 as per Billboard plus singles issued before had amassed more points than "just" the amount certified, which explains its current total tops 2 million. That being said, Billboard is now switching their formula to new ratio to downgrade freemium users so the methodology won't be aligned with RIAA rules anymore (unless they update them too).

Hi! Quick question-- can you provide to us estimates on Katy's eligible album certification updates? (for RIAA). also I'm assuming roar and dark horse have passed the 10x platinum, maybe even 11x threshold. thoughts?
