Hi again! For YouTube views, what do you use in addition to official audios, lyric videos, and music videos? Are award show performances and/or choreography videos released by the label itself also eligible for counting?

We use every video that has the song as the main focus. Everything you mention is eligible, but not a manga video using a song for example, as people look at it for the manga. Among videos eligible, we don't go down to videos below 1 million views, as that would take an infinite time while adding for very few equivalent album sales!

Thank you so much, I can see why it's so tedious to collect views for artists with larger discographies.

If you look at the compilations section will you notice that its sales are already distributed across their studio albums.

BTS actually added 32.5 million in the last 13 months (their total from 13 months ago was 72.5 million).

It's equivalent to 2.5 million a month or 30 million a year.

But 32.5M in 13 months doesn't make sense. If they continue at that speed, they'll enter the top 10 in around 3 years which is way too rapid.

We should always keep in mind that updates come with new sales, but also formula changes at times, plus some adjustments.

They did sell tremendously well once again, the higher weight for YouTube is obviously positive for them as they are over 50b there, while it appeared that every adjustment the article needed ended up being in the high side.

For example, various DVDs kept selling much better than expected, download sales of their albums were underrated, so were the strength of their exports globally with their Japanese products. We also identified sales of products that have been excluded from charts and the likes. All in all, it concludes on this unreal update.

Ohhhh, this makes so much sense!! I just thought they directly gained 32.6M EAS in 13 months but rather this insane figure also heavily takes into account huge adjustments. Thanks!

I have a genuine question--- *From where did you got sales of studio albums?* Eg- MOTS7 has 4.8M on Gaon according to 5/22 update so from where you got 5.1M sales? It's the same case with their all album.

It's down to album download sales, which aren't part of Gaon's total as they aren't imported from SK. Their 17 releases from there add for an estimated 2.35 million downloads globally.

Hello, I wanted to ask about CSPC single results of Permission To Dance? Based on the chart performance in various countries and streams accumulated even through shorter period of time seems like it would have surpassed Make it right at least? Is it far behind?

Wow we really are witnessing something historic here. "They are also the best selling boy band of all-time, topping the Backstreet Boys, and are months away until they top Coldplay to become the biggest group to debut in the last 35 years. Yes, they are that big."

I grew up during the backstreet boys and remember how massive that was, and BTS just blew by them.

they did not add 30m, MJD says they added 14m. the sharp increase is because of two things:

1. the streaming formula was changed where Youtube and Chinese streams are weighted stronger therefore bumping BTS' total way up
2. Many side albums and DVD's sales weren't included before but were just added this time around

A few articles in the media claiming that they are bigger/more successful than The Beatles in the 60s and Michael Jackson in the 80s. Not sure that I subscribe to this view but it would make an interesting comparison?

Hey MJD, what is your plan regarding the solo efforts of the band members and how/if they'll be included in BTS' total numbers?

For example, Charlie Puth's very recent song only had Jung Kook from the band sing on the song, yet it was still credited as a BTS song and thus the song's streams were included for BTS instead of Jung Kook (who didn't make the artist chart).
In this instance, do you guys plan on excluding these streams from BTS' units? Or will they be included since Spotify already does it?

How does BTS sold 3.300.000 copies of "Proof" in one week ? The other sources give much lower data .
