This was one of the most interesting articles I've read on this site. Cheers.
I love how Selena is triggering people in the comments. Selena is global that's a fact. She's a bigger celebrity than Shakira, Rihanna and definitely Mariah Carey.
Sorry but this ranking is really out of order, it's absurd to see Enya ahead of u2, 2pac, Aguilera, Winehouse or ahead of super international stars of the caliber of Maroon 5, Robbie Williams, Elton John, Coldplay, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran and many others, same thing for Kylie Minogue or Vladimir Vysotski in front of almost everyone I listed. or the Carpenters in 3rd place, very strange ranking.
However, I must say that I agree with many things about this ranking, but I find it rather strange, it seems as if it were mixed.
Bigger than Shakira? No. More global? Based on the info in this article, yes. Selena streams incredibly well on youtube considering she's been dead for like 30 years and didn't record much music in English.
Apologies, I just realized you were talking about Selena Gomez, not Selena. Oops!
It could be that she is more global since she peaked during the streaming age which gives her an advantage in some ways over the people you mentioned. So more global, but less popular than all the people you listed.
Most Wikipedia articles are created by fans, so to consider the artist more global because one fanatic decided to create a page with one line says nothing about their global appeal. Great job on everything else, but I feel this article doesn't carry much worth other than making some people happy with a useless metric.
Big fan of all your other work though, so this is not meant as a negative but just feedback.
Basshunter is #3 with 201 languages. Also Shakira is tied with Madonna and not Rihanna.
Selena has lot controversy and is big celebrity. People with controversy are way more famous than those without it.
Basshunter is a legend haha.
There are definitely some outliers in this metric that doesn't add up. Not to say there's any perfect way to gauge "globalness"
Hi ExposingLies!
Busshunter's page went from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basshunte r" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">44 to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basshunte r" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">157 due to a mass copy from a user called Eurohunter in late 2018, and the same person kept adding new versions over the following years. These are not organic statistics, unlike the remaining artists present on this list.
As for Shakira, this is why I never mentioned publicly this upcoming article: I knew fans were going to try to corrupt organic results instantly. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakir a" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">Here is the last version saved on Wayback Machine, from a few days before the article was published. As you can see, she was on 129, tied with Rihanna.
Does she? I admit I am completely out of the loop on Selena since her music doesn't appeal to me.
