I don't think divide should be the standard for anyone not even himself, that was a ridiculously high peak. Also his new album is doing alright, bad habits/shivers are shaping up to be yet another couple of stable hits of his and the title track remains to be seen since his stuff usually grows in streams overtime

30 million first day plays on spotify on album release date isn't good at all for someone like ed. No matter what. It is terrible. Now hopefully he is consistent

I wasn't expecting him to beat divide's debut regardless since he obviously doesn't have as much hype as back then with shape of you but true, 30m is bad for someone like him. I still think equals gonna be stable but yeah divide will be his peak (no shame in that lol)

Justin Bieber debuted before Ed Sheeran, he has at least 20 more singles and 2 or 3 more LPs, however Sheeran has much better average sales

Ok I think people need to stop talking as if the album is already a flop when it has only been released for 4 days, at the time of writing. You never know, maybe his 3rd or 4th or 5th single might be a strong one and stabilize album sales again. Yes he will for sure have big drops, but I have a strong feeling the album will have no problem hitting the 10 million CSPC mark. If people were to remember correctly, Eminem 4th studio albums also saw big drops of sales. So its not like his sales are doing any less impressive than Eminem. Plus, he is still so young, him making a strong rebound is not something unimaginable.

The no 6 album is considered a studio album still, it's just of different nature, but still a studio album. It clearly lowered his sales, as he's flopping pretty bad at the moment with Equals.

He definitely is nowhere near Eminem.

That makes no sense, No. 6 collabos broke a streaming record at the time for first-day streams with I Don't Care and opened Ed up to lots of different artists' fans, new markets (basically a money-grab) but there is no reason for the next album to underperform due to that. Bad Habits and Shivers are comfortably in spotify's global top 15, soon top 10 again, WW iTunes you know Ed Sheeran smashes and probably owns the top 5, just the rest of the album wasn't so consistent. He needed to work with benny blanco and Jake Gosling a little bit more because that FRED guy is BTS's producer and the music they put out together recently is... well, trash.

Also, Divide had originally 6 songs surpass 1 billion streams in less than 5 years

  1. Shape Of You
  2. Love Yourself
  3. Perfect
  4. Castle On The Hill
  5. Happier
  6. Galway Girl

This new album? Bad Habits and Shivers only, the rest already faded from the charts. Hope his next album will be more acoustic, like + and X, or that the deluxe he is rumoured to release has some sticky song

He just needs to stay loyal to his musicianship imo, when I first heard Shivers and Overpass Graffiti before the release, acoustic, I thought to myself: "Shivers is going to be the next 'Señorita' and Overpass Graffiti bigger than 'Photograph'". Big mistake.

People acted as if he is in his 50s and there is no possibility he will ever make a comeback. Ed first 5 albums is not much different than Eminem, sales wise. Too early to tell if he will ever be as big as Eminem. Its not as if Eminem 4th and 5th studio albums did not have large drop of sales. Honestly, Eminem drop of sales is kinda similar to Ed. The Eminem Show - Encore saw over 50% sales drop, Encore - Relapse at around 40%. Which is honestly not much different than Ed sales trajectory, especially since all of his studio albums are still growing very strongly. Also he is only 30 years old. Still way too young and having several come backs here and there is not something impossible.

Shape of You 5rd of the decade? Pfft. Anyone dare say what song of ALL-TIME is bigger than Shape of You?

Ed in this era had 2 problems, the genre he made was somewhat old and the Tracks didn't work well, for his next album he just needs to work with better producers on something r&b hip/hop or pop rock and make it a little more acoustic. I think he still has great appeal, Equals' performance is just the result of a couple of things that went wrong.

r&b hip/hop would be great for more Urban artists, like Chris Brown, Drake, Young Thug etc. pop rock with an acoustic approach would be really great, as was his sophomore album X, the biggest male solo album of the decade or century, idk. But the album is still doing well out of Spotify, but it ain't had more than 2 hits that is really low for Ed who theoretically had 6 with 1b on Divide and 3 radio hits on No. 6 collabs

It'll probably increase its position due to ongoing streams, but it suffers from the also great performance of Perfect, which takes away a lot of ÷ sales in this methodology.

Plenty of songs are bigger. Especially the ones from Adele, whom we all know easily outsold anybody in the 2010s on an album to album, single to single basis.

The biggest songs of all times are not based on streaming only. MJD calculated based on streamings + download sales + album sales (With album sales being proportionately distributed according to their streams towards each songs on that album). Next time u might want to read an introduction to the website first and actually understand their formula before making ignorant comments. Also, if you dont agree with their estimates. You can always go to another website that you find legit. Why was so much time here?

Ed really has a problem in America, his album debuted with only 50K units per stream, someone like Ed should do more than 100K. He must change his sounds and work with new people, he cannot lose his popularity in America

Could you add the new sales of the “Tour Edition” version?

Spotify

= (2,5bn)
Tour Edition (3,2bn)

Does views of YouTube shorts on Ed’s channel count as sales by video stream?

Ed Sheeran’s Bad Habits (feat. Bring Me The Horizon) is not included on Ed’s Spotify numbers tool page but appears on BMTH spotify page on chartmasters. currently has 33 million streams
