There is no difference between net shipment and actual sales for such old records that haven't been selling notable amounts for years. The 35 million figure is just an inflated figure.

Im really surprised that "Come on Over" didnt do that well in Asia. Because I remember hearing "You're still the one" over and over and over again on the radio, Im from Malaysia btw. I guess maybe she did pretty well in Malaysia, its a small market after all and she probably didnt do that well in other major Asian market. Anyway, to me its such a shame that she had to retire so early in her career. She was probably the only country artist that has managed to break the world market successfully. I always wonder how much she could've achieved if she were to produce a lot more albums. Having said that, her achievement are already impressive.

Why did Shania stopped releasing albums? She really had the potential to even beat Celine, Mariah and Whitney if only she kept on releasing albums.

I hope Alanis is next. Im so fond of Canadian music artists. 🙂

She had some breakdown moments. And I doubted she will take over Celine or Mariah sales. Country singers always has tougher times to appeal to the wider global audience. Her success was already amazing and it should be prolonged. But its going to be really2 hard for country singers to produce smashing 20 million++ album sales worldwide multiple times. Btw, I also am waiting for Alanis too. I would love to hear MJD comments regarding her. I believe her breakthrough was even bigger than Britney or Madonna but after that her sales just went down and down and never recovers. It would be a really interesting article and analysis to do.

Since you confirmed COO now sold 35 million in pure sales, how did it jump from 33.5 million only since 2016? Its catalog sales are way less than this. Since North American, Latin American, Japanese, European and ROW(South Africa known) sales are all consistent and known, what changed the 1.5 million? It is delusional that the missed 1.5 million in Southeast Asia was founded.No reports about it online. Waiting for you reply. Thanks.

OK, I check YouTube Insights, Shania Twain was super huge in Southeast Asia. Bangkok from Thailand, Jakarta from Indonesia and Quezon City from the Philippines was her most streamed cities. The Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and India were all inside her top 10 most streamed countries. Based on she sold well in most territories, that would suggest millions of albums sold in Southeast Asia, much bigger than the previous estimated 350k for COO. MJD, was that largely change the estimated total? You estimated it by discogs users or what? I read that COO was 9xPlatinum in Indonesia on ukmix, but the same confirmed the fake 1 million for Brazil. Don't know which is true.

Thanks for the link, now I'm back at it! Yes, back when I wanted to compare 21 to previous blockbusters, to do it correctly I re-checked its main competition. In fact I found out that both YouTube Insights and Discogs suggest that COO did way better all over Asia than it did in Japan, relatively-speaking, while the opposite was assumed in the past since there was no tool to contradict it!

MJD u mention that no country singer ever managed to break through the international market like Shania did. But how about Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton and Olivia Newton John. I believe they were quite big globally too at some point right?

Hey @MJD, When were these pure sales updated? It says Feb 5th 2022 in the breakdown table but on the main "best selling artists" page, it says May 12th 2016. Is there a difference between the two? Which date is the correct one? Thanks!

Shania’s album Now sold 600.000 units in the year of release. It has certified sales of 80.000 in Canada, 60.000 in the UK and 233.800 in the US

does it account for the 2 million sold through BMG music club and 3+ million COO sold through Columbia music club in the united states? Only some albums are sold through these channels.
