Hi Jack!
Well actually no. IFPI displayed it wrongly in a late PDF, just like D'Eux at 8xP, but these supposed awards never appeared in their monthly lists and are also impossible considering these albums sales country by country. FIY went 4xP in 1996 and 7xP in 1998 while D'Eux was 4xP in 1996 and 5xP in 1998.
where is the correct website about falling into you at 7P and Deux 5P ?
besides, falling into you and lets talk about love, both of them sales are missing in Taiwan Honking etc ,China. this is true.Encore un soir not only 0.5m copies in France but 0.8M ,1M worldwide. thank you .
Mjd,
Just out of curiousity. Aee you ever planning on updating her results? It seems like its been such a long time since her last update.
It was on IFPI's own site, although they removed these lists of Platinum albums for very long. I have all them saved in a Word document. A typo in my last comment, it was 1997 not 1998. You can still access to these lists through Way Back Machine http://www.ifpi.org/site-content/platinum/plat1997.htm l" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">here.
About Taiwan, HK, etc, even if countries aren't listed, they have all been accounted for, you can check totals, they don't simply add listed markets. As for Encore Un Soir, it was fairly new when the article was published.
Hi Michael!
Updates of old articles take nearly as much time as new articles, that's why they are fairly rare. To change that though we are going to start updating the streaming section on its own inside CSPC articles, that way that will be done more often, since now the huge majority of sales for acts who aren't releasing new material come from this avenue only.
Checking on the current top 10 most streamed Celine Dion songs in Spotify I saw from a different site, it looks unbelievable and unfair that the newer yet less popular ones are slowly beating her old yet very popular ones.
Oh but well, time changes. the population gets bigger, the entertainment gets easier to access, etc. I just have to accept the fact that they are old songs and shouldn't be compared equally to the new ones.
Every ticket sold comes with her upcoming english album for her Courage World Tour. Will it be counted as a sale MJD?
Hi MJD/chartmasters,
What is your prediction on the total pure album sales of Celine Dion's upcoming English album? Is it guaranteed to reach 1 million pure album sales?
Hi MJD,
1. Has Encore Un Soir album reached the 1 million album sales already?
2. What is the total EAS of the song "Encore Un Soir"?
3. Has Let's Talk About Love" album already reached 30 million EAS?
4. What is the total EAS of Ashes?
5. Can you give us a list of top-selling french- artists (top 50 at least) of all time, top-selling french albums (top 50) of all time as well as top-selling french songs (top 50) of all time?
6. Can you give us a list of top-selling movie theme songs of all time ( top 50 at least)
7. Can you give us a list of top-selling covers (top 50) of all time?
8. Can you give us a list of top-selling collaborations( duets/trios/etc) of all time?
9. Can you at least confirm if Celine Dion's current total EAS is bigger than Elton John's and U2's?
Thank you in advance! 🙂
"These are special times" really only sold 80,000 copies in France? Or is it supposed to be 800,000?
80,000. "S'il suffisait d'aimer" was released 7 September 1998 and "These Are Special Times" was released 30 October 1998. As you can see,"These are special times" was overshadowed by "S'il suffisait d'aimer". Too many releases in a short period of time.
Does continental Europe mean total Europe sales or total Europe sales without UK?
I think the reason is because the song is actually a cover of John Lennon and has been widely covered by multiple artists (I know, I didn't even know until I saw Lennon's original version cracked Spotify's top 10 this past Christmas season).
"Given respective markets, 4,21 million in France equals to some 34 million units in the US, more than what Michael Jackson‘s Thriller did."
Hmmm... France's population is about 1/5 of the US population, so 4 million in France would be more like 20 million in the US. And if by "markets" you're referring to total album sales in the US vs. France, well that just means music is more popular in the US than in France.
As for Celine, I wonder where she would rank in the list of most successful artists ever in France ? Johnny Hallyday is clearly #1, and I guess Michel Sardou is also above her, but are Francis Cabrel and JJ Goldman also above ?
