The continual unwanted, unneeded and completely irrelevant (to the study posted in) "please update my fave" or "please study my fave" posts, hurts mine!
I must make a confession. I dont know who AC/DC is. But men, that is some very impressive total.
Alternating current (AC) is an electric current which periodically reverses direction, in contrast to direct current (DC) which flows only in one direction.
Hello to all the chartmasters team.
I would really like to congratulate you, your work is wonderful, I always follow you every day. I wanted to ask if you could add the sales or estimates for countries like Argentina,Brazil, México,Japan and continents like Asia for each album and also on page 44 and then I wanted to know why EP Jalibreak is considered as a whole sale,I know that the sales of EPs are considered half.
Then I also wait with trepidation a new U2 analysis (updates) and Sting & The Police analysis .
Sorry for any disturbance, I hope that some of the staff responds me.
That's huge and well deserved, they're such a great band! Thank you very much.
Hi, Guillaume !
First, congrats for your work, of course. Amazing, as always, and very appreciated. If I dare, may I suggest you my wish list for your future work ?
First, of course, Elvis (I know, it's coming, and I can just imagine how much difficult it can be, considering his discography).
Then, three female singers : Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross.
Six male singers : Frank Sinatra, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton and Cliff Richard.
Four bands : The Beach Boys, The Who, Chicago, Van Halen.
Greedy ? Oh yes, right, but I think these acts deserve it, isn'it ?...
Cheers !
Edit (sorry) : Forgot two male singers in my requests list (Phil Collins and Paul Simon) and two bands (Genesis and Supertramp). There's no hurry, of course... 😁

With regards to Spotify/Streaming, I’ve recently been looking at the overall popularity of the tracks that an album comprises of, as opposed to just looking at the overall total streams of the album.
As you can see above BIB beats DSOM by about 85m (DC: 522m/PF: 436m) total streams and it’s Top 5 tracks (490m) has about 176m more streams than DSOMS (314m). The tracks BIB (216m) & YSMANL (143m) have way more streams than the best track on DSOM, Money (107m). In fact, the Top 4 tracks on BIB have more streams (477m) than the whole of DSOM (436m).
But looking at it from the bottom up, DSOM has all 10 of its tracks at 20m+, whereas BIB only has 4 of its. The least streamed track on DSOM ACYL (20m) has at least 7m+ more streams than the 5th most streamed track on BIB HADOM (13m) and about the same (19.9m) as the bottom 4 tracks on BIB (20.1m). Also, the bottom 5 tracks on DSOM (122m) account for 90m more streams than those from BIB (32m).
Is BIB the more popular album in streaming because it has more overall all streams or should you also look at an albums least popular track and suggest that (an as album) DSOM is the more popular, as it has been streamed at least 19.9m times overall, compared to BIBs only being streamed at least 3.9m times overall.
All this does make me question if just adding up an albums tracks & their overall total streams, tells us how popular an album (as an album) actually is. Sure, it tells us how popular the tracks are that make up that album, but does that naturally translate back into how popular the album is (as an album)? Is it even right to think of these albums as albums still and not just tracks?
In the past it was near impossible to statistically gauge how popular each track was on an album, now I believe it is near impossible to statistically gauge how popular an album (as an album) is. Mainly because the concept/product is virtual redundant, it’s all track driven now IMO.
Anyway, something to throw out there for a few opinions!
Hi Winston, can you and everyone else stop using specific artist threads to request other artists you would like to see studied. It is unwelcome and clutters up a thread it is completely irrelevant to.
If you wish to request more artists, please use the correct http://chartmasters.org/2017/10/cspc-sticky-thread-for-requests/ section. Thanks.
Hello Thomas and Martin, congratulation again for the wonderful article on AC/DC
I just wanted to ask if you add the estimates of countries like Brazil, México and Argentina on page 44 and because EP Jalibreak is estimated 2.230.000 copies,I know that EPs are estimated half their valute.
Hi Iris, yes they are given an estimated figure.
'74 Jailbreak is indeed listed as an EP or I should say was released as an EP, but it did actually chart on the Billboard 200, called Billboard "Top LPs & Tape" at the time, as all EP's did from the mid 60's onwards, reaching No.76 and staying on the chart for 20wks and therefore is assumed as an album.
Hi IRIS!
Don't know if you read the articles on other artists here on this site, but some of them have estimates on the countries you listed and some don't. Though I'm not part of the group estimating album sales, I'm sure the real reason for this is because of insufficient data.
For big artists whose sales were documented by old articles or label reports, we have sufficient data to calculate up to date sales in countries like Japan, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. This is why artists like Britney, MJ and Spice Girls have very detailed album sales breakdown in their article, as they were widely reported.
For some artists, especially older ones, sales in countries like Southeast Asia or Latin America are rarely reported, and there are rarely certifications for albums there. If they do have certs, some would be highly outdated. We can only gauge their success there using tools such as Youtube Insight, tours, worldwide sales deducted by known markets etc.
Another reason for the N/A sales, especially concerning AC/DC, is because they are great catalog sellers. Most albums which was big during its promotional campaign will have sales in various countries reported, but for albums that sells stable amounts for a long period, they won't or hardly be reported afterwards. We can only gauge their current sales using ratios based of other similar markets.
As for jailbreak, I'll have to ask MJD about that. I'll reply to you when he does to me!
Thanks for answering dear Martin and Raffi, you have very kind
I believe that when you update U2,their EP Wide Awake In America (1985) that has sold 2.500.000 copies,it will also have to be evaluated as a total sale and not half.
It may not be the right thread but can we have a clue of who's coming next ? 🙂
