the first sentence really resonates. It really is not easy for SE asian artists to become global as we all know the public will always prefer English or Latin music as they are always the most popular spoken languages. Also i still dont get why some people still continue to call them overrated when clearly they were extremely flopping into the beginning into their career and it took several years for their popularity and fanbase to grow.
Actually according to wikipedia bts has sold 20 million albums worldwide.
1st of all, this article hasn´t been updated with MOTS: 7. 2nd, are you really trusting Wikipedia? lol
MJD, would you please elaborate the solo songs through figures of sales to have a good detailed one and a more sensible to the readers and fans, instead of adding it to the "Remaining Tracks" in order to be more clear and less confusing especially to their newly release album, Map Of The Soul: 7. Just like Jin's new song, called Moon which tops in number 1 position on iTunes in 103 countries now, which makes more interesting and exciting if the figures of physical and digital sales, even in streaming are explained individually and very well. I am hoping for some add - on on your good validated article.
Actually Bts have sold 20 million + albums worldwide after adding Mots 7 sales even Bang pd said in the latest video.
First of all guys, they not just counting physical album (21.M as per last update, today, Gaon Chart)
But they also count : stream, download, sales per songs, basically total units.
20 million+ is physical album only not included download and streaming equivalent album sales. What this chart master did is counting everything from physical, streaming and download. That's how 55 million+ is counted.
On this streaming era how many artist nowadays actually have powerful physical sales? This just showing that BTS has insane physical sales and also good album equivalent sales from streaming and download.
Thanks for the update, it's crazy to see how much they grow every year. I have a question: I have looked at the artists you've studied and I'm pretty sure the only Asian artist who has a higher overall EAS is Ayumi Hamasaki with 61,153,000. Assuming BTS will overtake her in the relatively near future, will they become the best selling Asian artist of all time or do you think there is an Asian artist that you haven't studied yet who has more EAS?
Thanks for the reply - I look forward to you covering that artist one day so we can see how far ahead they are (for now)
Crazy that their pure album sales continue to increase for each album even as that format tanks for most artists.
Interested to see and update on One Direction to see how much their albums have increased despite not releasing any since 2015, especially since their 10th anniversary
Wow! I just realized that BTS released already 12 original albums in 7 years?...
Am I seeing this right? That's really a lot... didn't know they started so long ago and released so many things... I only ever heard 2 songs from them as those were the only played at the radio (I'm in Europe, where they sold the less amount of albums worldwide).
Sure they are near Spice Girls sales level but they released what? 3 original albums during 3 years?
Unfortunally sales from last century are not very reliable and are probably quite higher than official data, especially in some European countries and South America. Even Billboard Soundscan only covered 45% of US market in the late 90's.
I’m a little confused. The picture with YouTube streams says BTS has over 2 billion streams. Can someone break it down so I can understand better?
