But data of chart master is a little bit wrong in latest bighit briefing video bang pd said BTS sold 6.2 million copies of mots persona and 4.1 million copies of Mots 7 but here it's 7.9 million for persona and 6+ million for mots 7 and I don't think that bang pd is lying.

Welcome back online guys. Great job as usual. I'd like to know if someone has an explanation of why J-Pop so far has never been able to achieve the same popularity in western music markets that K-Pop is currently experiencing

First of all, the Japanese market unlike the Korean one is so massive on it's own. This doesn't really give the labels there much of a reason to try to expand internationally since their artists can sell in the tens of millions domestically. They also held a ton of acts of services like Spotify, YouTube and even iTunes until recently due to the massive market share physical sales still have there. This definitely resticted foreigners from consuming J-Pop legally as most can't really aford importing super expensive CD's from Japan.

Korean labels on the other hand had their eyes set on the Japanese market and later the World already in the early 2000's since the amount they could sell in South Korea alone was much more limited. They also have backing by the Korean ministry of culture who seeks to increase South Korea's soft power globally through music, dramas, sports, fashion etc. (commonly known as the Hallyu wave) This has worked incredibly well across all venues mentioned, not just K-Pop.

Thanks. I didn't know the korean government was so openly behind the korean pop culture boom of the past 20 years. Wise policy I have to say since being an international pop culture power is probably almost as important as being an economical and military power

Is there any link where we can check the most successful albums of each year?
In the Records & Achievements part, it says BTS' album were in either top 5 or top 10, i'm curious which albums were above it.
How can I know those??

Sadly no. But if you give me a specific year can I give you a list of the top releases we've studied + some rough estimates for the ones we haven't yet 🙂

Do you have an estimate for B'z? Based on rough calculation on albums and singles they arent ahead of BTS, but DVDs probably put them ahead?
