Soundtrack success is often very binary – hit or miss. The hit may be tremendous during about a quarter along with the movie as it has been seen with Saturday Night Fever, Grease, Dirty Dancing or the Titanic soundtracks. Other soundtracks get ignored and disappear.

Many soundtracks are well known for being part of all-time best sellers everywhere – a la Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Bodyguard or Titanic. Strong selling local soundtracks have been a very rare phenomenon yet although France music scene is dominated by local acts.
