After a slow start Renaud took off thanks to the hit Laisse Béton. He directly entered French culture history as it popularized the verlan, an argot consisting of reversing syllables. It remains widely talked up to this day.
His albums started to do well from then on but no song really did wonders in physical single format, although Marche à l’ombre was a decent seller.
