CSPC: Beyonce Popularity Analysis

CSPC Beyonce

Rated recently as the most powerful women in the industry a few months ago by Fortune magazine, Beyonce has been growing a lot since the days of No, No, No hit single way back in 1998 with the Destiny’s Child. Most powerful doesn’t necessarily mean best selling artist though so how the diva stands in comparison to her peers in that field?

It all started in a very standard way with a string of successful eras with her group from 1998 to 2001. During that period, she met and started to date Jay-Z that she married in 2008. Retrospectively, this meeting can be regarded as a tremendous event for the music industry as a whole. The relationship obviously brought several key hits to Beyonce but the pair’s combined strengths also enabled them to invest in various brands from the Brooklyn Nets to TIDAL, developing more and more their status as business powerhouses.

Among the very top selling albums of the last 20 years though, it is all about Adele, Eminem or Britney Spears with no records from the Destiny’s Child, Beyonce or Jay-Z. Does that mean the couple is primarily successful as business associates rather than recording artists? Well, maybe that’s going too far.

As usual, I’ll be using the Commensurate Sales to Popularity Concept in order to relevantly gauge her results. This concept will not only bring you sales information for all Beyonce‘s albums, physical and download singles, as well as audio and video streaming, but it will also determine their true popularity. If you are not yet familiar with the CSPC method, the next page explains it with a short video. I fully recommend watching the video before getting into the sales figures. Of course, if you are a regular visitor feel free to skip the video and get into the figures.

Omg I love your site so much. I often use it as a source for my college researchs. Anyways, is there a JLo analysis on the way? Pleaaaase!!! I need accurate information about her so-called-popularity.
Thank you for everything you’ve done and thanks in advance <3

Why in the Lady Gaga article did you put Telephone her third best selling song with 4,430,000 and in Beyonce it is the tenth most sold song with only 1,720,000?

KantClark

Because Telephone has different weight in Bey and Gaga’s EAS sales. For Gaga Telephone generated more EAS sales .

Carre

Ah, ok thanks!

Terrance

her sales in asia is really surprising, maybe bigger than rihanna

RLAAMJR.

If you’re talking about pure album sales, then you are right. In Asia, Beyonce has 2,550,00 while Rihanna has 1,910,000.

I have a question regarding Lemonade sales. Something feels a bit strange and I am glad you can clarify. At the end of the 2016 you said Lemonade sold 2,5M (on par with the IFPD report) and I assume sales=shipments at that point, 8 months later from the release. In the breakdown she sold a ratio less than 2:1 USA vs rest of the World (1,6 vs 0,9). Since then she add 300k in the USA, but only 70K in the rest of the world, a ratio more than 4:1. She constantly keeps good positions in the Itunes charts in… Read more »

Sorry to say this but I’d put Britney and Rihanna over Beyonce as the bigger music artists. Yes Beyonce can sing and dance better than Britney and Rihanna but even Madonna outshone the Vocal Female Trinity by a huge mile. Pure album sales Bney: 76,380,000 Bey: 35,500,000 Rih: 33,100,000 EAS Bney: 100,827,000 Rih: 86,846,000 Bey: 74,052,000 Beyonce may have bigger networth and more successful tours but Britney is good at it too. Rihanna may not have impressive number but she has the highest number of platinum singles and 14 #1 singles in the US Billboard Hot 100. Beyonce gets more… Read more »

It’s funny when someone try to put down Beyonce’s impact in music just looking for album or single sales and ignoring all the other spheres involved in this haha. But keep trying, buddy. After Lemonade Era and Beychella there is not much to discuss about this. 🙂

IvyLeague

It’s really not that cut and dry. Britney has 9 albums Rihanna has 8. Bey 6. Britney benifited greatly from a peak in physical sales and tappered off. Rih has an iron fist in digital sales. Beyonce pulls from both sectors. U.S Chart wise: Britney has 5 #1s. One she shares with Rihanna. Beyonce-5, recentlty 6 Rihanna- 14 Top 10s Britney- 13 Beyonce- 18 Rihanna- 31 Top 40s Britney- 27 Beyonce- 39 Rihanna- 51 The results are almost similar worldwide. Again. I am not even sure why Britney continues to be interjected into the conversation. She has lagged behind other… Read more »

Britney’s 100million eas is kind of unattainable (but maybe not on Rih’s case)because Rihanna would need to release 2-3 more albums (based on anti’s total cspc) to possibly surpass Britney’s numbers, which Britney may have release one more album.

Based on lemonade total eas, I dont think Beyonce can surpass Britney’s total eas. Bey would need to release prolly 4-5 more albums to outEAS Britney. Its just a long time to predict Bey can surpass Britney’s numbers so it’s safe to say Bey wont reach Britney’s eas numbers.

IvyLeague

We cant predict the future or what each lady will release. But data tells us that Beyonce has an average eas over her 6 eras that outpaces Britneys 9. Yes sales are falling but the growth in streaming shouldnt be underestimated and do add up over time. Again, Britneys catalog and newer singles have been moving slow vs Beyonces and Rihanna’s. At this point its futile for Britney to keep releasing albums that do half the total of the last. Brings her average and legacy down. Antis last update was at 5.2 million. Maybe we can say 5.5 now. Meanwhile… Read more »

We shall see who among us predicted accurately. All I can say that seeing how low the eas of lemonade is, Beyonce is slowly going down. And i dont think she can stay relevant and strong on her next 3 future albums. Prolly an average of 1-2 pure album sales and estimated average of 3 million on others, so thats like 5 million eas on her every future album. As for Rihanna, I can still see her earning more #1 songs and still strong at streaming with her albums having an average of 5-8 million eas per album. And she’s… Read more »

Beyoncé is healthy and take care a lot with her career. She probably will release albums for a long time. I don’t see she stopping working until the 60 at least. And she is strong in streaming. Britney pratically ended her selling force and is weak on catalog and streams. I see Beyoncé outselling Britney’s EAS with no difficulties in a long run.

Rashad

to add, she did those numbers without updating her first 5 albums after 1-2 years of its release. i can see her solidly passing her after a sales update. and as for rihanna she will continue to do well commercially but in sales, she underperforms considering she has been a mainstream artist her whole career.

FreakyDicky

Omg yes! I’m pretty sure DIL sold 12M + pure ww.

Bday should be at 10M pure by now.

IASF 11M+ pure.

4- 5M

ST 5-6M, (never left the top 50 ww itunes best selling albums)

Lemonade 3-4M.

Totals 45-46M pure studio albums
Video albums: 5M+ pure

Comprehensive sales: 50M pure albums

SkkyWill

hosts like Whitney ???

Stephon

Where can I find the pure & streaming sales combined for the singles page? Where does it show Halo selling 17 million streaming equivalent singles?

Stephon

Thank you MJD!

KantClark

MJD, Can you post the Listen’s sales breakdown? I know it is a huge catalog seller but i’m very surprised with this huge number.

Listen – 5,690,000

KantClark

MJD is far far away to be a bey stan haha. I already confronted him because of some negative coments about Beyoncé. How I had predicted Bey is very undercertified in a lot of countries. Columbia seems doesn’t care to update her catalog and makes she looks sell less than she does.

Teca

You’ve given her nearly 30 million singles since the last update of this article. Why not put 200 million singles at once? The clowning was already embarrassing.

I’m quitting this site.

isaiah

then leave already and quit arguing, your obsessive hatred of Beyoncé is showing (typical Navy/Brit Army/Little Monster)

Teca

I’m leaving because of all of these lies, it’s so much for me. If you want to stay here to being comfortable about all Beyoncé’s lies, you’re welcome, i’m not. =)

PS: Get ready Michael Jackson, Bey is coming for your head when she reach 300mi records sold by 2020 in this nonsense site despite being selling 5m records per era (and decreasing, even with using black people and other excluded niches for sell her bad stuff)

RLAAMJR.

Teca, please do leave and never post on this site. You are unwanted here. And you are wrong.

Timie

Beyonce must have killed your parents. i read the article and it proves you are just another depressed type

Teca

Ok i got it. The 3 million copies from this absurd article came from Venus, where Gaga performed in 2013, lol.

Did Jay Z also buy this site to lie and cheat in favor of his wife? Already enough Forbes, Pitchfork, and all the means of communication that he can manipulate in favor of his beloved…

Joking Jay z =), don’t send me yours private assassins for shut my mouth up.

Teca

You did not say anything to me, you did not answer me. It did not prove right and I was wrong, just like any Beyoncé fan is. And if the ATRL has the least notion and partiality that does not exist here, I’d rather stay right there. Bye beystan.

Calvin

Drag her MJD!

Nuclear dolphin

It’s always a shame when some people feel the need to be insulting. I suggest if you have such information then create your own site and be open for the opinion of others.
