Best selling artists, albums and singles of all-time

It has been over 2 years since I introduced to you the Commensurate Sales to Popularity Concept, nicknamed CSPC, in March 2016. This revolutionary concept enables to define accurately the most successful artists ever. During this timeframe I, with the precious help of Hernan Lopez and Anthony Blanchard, studied nearly 100 artists, 1,000 albums plus countless singles and stand-alone tracks worth a gigantic 8,5 billion equivalent album sales combined!

Many of you praised the effort and the ongoing results which really makes us feel great about the website. One recurrent negative feedback though has been the difficulty to navigate the blog. One unique, cross-artist source of data was needed. While I can advise you to use the search function at the top-right, which works really well, an article grouping together the main data is definitely a positive improvement. So, here it is, please say hi to the Data Collector!

This article lists various rankings, with more added frequently, please see the summary on page 2. Top selling singles / albums / artists, per format, per year, per artist type, etc… everything is possible!

Thanks to this Data Collector it isn’t necessary anymore to repeat the comprehensive rankings at the end of each article. It will solve an issue by removing some pages and letting you reach always the same final pages for all acts – CSPC totals, the artist’s singles ranking and their records & achievements. This article will be kept updated which will also prevent us from having lists updated at different moments here and there.

Anthony will handle the updates of this thread from now on and try to answer your questions the best he can. We won’t be answering to lists requests on comments though as it will be impossible to maintain them. Instead, when you request something, and if it is relevant for many people, we will add a page to the article with the said list.

i dont think this is right because the beatles sold over a billion and they reached a billion back in 1985 there is even videos of old news tv shows showing it

Many images around the site are still not showing up for me. It’s been a problem for a couple of months now.

what are the biggest albums of 2017, obviously ed sheeran’s divide is no. 1

It would be interesting look the CSPC sales of latin pop icons like Thalia, Selena, Paulina Rubio or Gloria Estefan. Their certifieds show how they could be in the top 100
Great job boys!!

In the analysis of Ariana Grande her sales are 33m but here they appear 42m, where do the remaining 9m come from? I dont doubt that with her streaming she could reach it, although I doubt that she has done so much streaming so fast, plus it would be good to see her breakdown while Miley Cyrus was reduced by almost 5m

the streams are updated daily and since she had the one of the biggests albums of last year, huts with lady gaga & justin bieber + a new album increasing at a rapid pace it’s entirely possible

For 2017, is the #1 female album of that year Reputation or Dua Lipa?

Although we haven’t studied her in detail yet do I think it’s clear that Dua is in a lead that keeps increasing

News from 2019. According to Nielsen Music, combined sales song “make you feel my love” by Bob Dylan, Adele, Joel to cite a few a biggest version, are more than 10 million and Adele rendition has generated more than 600 million Spotify streams (12/2020) and 300 million Youtube streams. About 500 artists have recorded this song.

Didn’t folklore alone have 4m cpsc units?
Like she is most likely the #1 on 2020

IFPI list..

Tf is this list.. if you come up with Chinese sales are valued less then where’s the authenticity of this website.

I think 2020 statistics have been updated in July, because according to Alpha Data Taylor sold 3.5 mln CSPC in the US alone in 2020(so it is definitely bigger than 3.1 mln), so I guess Chartmasters’ statistics for 2020 are outdated

That revenue stuff here has flaws. I mean think about how many CD‘s in America sold in stores below 3$ over the decades, they all count 1 CSPC. Selling 6,7 digital singles reduced to 0,69$ as a featured artist also counts as 1 CSPC, but the artist only gets a small cut of the 4,60$ total revenue generated.
