The truth about Britney Spears’ album sales in Europe

NORTHEN EUROPE – SWEDEN

May I say Jive has been lazy certifying Britney‘s albums in Sweden? My Prerogative wasn’t certified Gold, representing 30,000 units, but it appears to be on 40,000 units by now. It isn’t rare to see decent catalog sellers fail to be updated given they break the certification criteria years later.

They have been truly lazy though with the Britney album for example. This album went Gold for 40,000 units during the Christmas season of 2001. I was surprised to see it on at least 60,000 copies according to Britney.com’s awards, given from January 2002 the criteria was reduced and that figure would have been enough to award the album Platinum. I did additional verifications, using the year end charts of that country. Britney was the 28th best seller of 2001 and 80th of 2002. Songs In A Minor, the debut album of Alicia Keys, was 32nd of 2001 and failed to reach the Top 100 in 2002 by just a few places. Britney out performed it in in both years. Songs In A Minor went Platinum as early as in March 2002, showing Britney is indeed past 60,000 copies.

Merging all the data together concludes on the following album sales to date:

  • Baby One More Time – 100,000
  • Oops!… I did It Again – 130,000
  • Britney – 70,000
  • In The Zone – 35,000
  • Greatest Hits, My Prerogative – 40,000
  • Blackout – 12,500
  • Circus – 15,000
  • The Singles Collection – N/A

Hi MJD what was the biggest Janet Jackson’s era in Europe in your opinion globally? Here in France it was clear that it was during the Velvet Rope she was everywhere and did 4 or 5 sold out concert in 1998

Isn’t 1xP=40k for foreign artists since 2002/01 to 2008/01

Until 12/1999, 1xP=100.000 in Nertherlands. BOMT is officially certified 3xP, why did you use the criteria since 12/1999 to 12/2005, which equals to 240.000? (I am talkin about official awards)
