France Best Selling Albums Ever:
Update Part 7 (20-1)

#2 – 67,000 UNITS

Stromae – Racine Carrée (2013) : 2,065,000

It almost feels like Racine Carrée is still a fairly recent album. A one-in-a-generation kind of success, Stromae sophomore effort continues to be massive. The 26-weeks #1 set, spread over 2013 and 2014, spent each of the first 36 weeks of 2016 inside the global Top 100, 20 of which Top 40. After a 3 years of ground breaking results, the norm would be to see a much weaker 2017 year for the album. It isn’t going to happen as just last week it was #27, almost matching its #25 peak of 2016. Stromae doesn’t seem in a hurry to drop a third album, if it happens though one can only imagine how high Racine Carrée will climb once again.

Are the French really that open to English language artist? I thought France is a really tough market to break into. But seems like they are very open indeed.

Hi MJD! Love your updates on the best selling albums in France.

I want to ask whether there are new addition to the list of million selling albums in France. One example is Adele’s 25 album. Is it close to the million threshold? Other albums i remember close to that mark are AC/DC Highway to Hell, a couple of Sade albums etc. Have they surpassed 1 million copies in France?

Looking forward for your next project!
