Jean-Jacques Goldman – Entre Gris Clair et Gris Foncé (1987) : 1 655 000
One more ground breaking Jean-Jacques Goldman album, Entre Gris Clair et Gris Foncé is home of Puisque Tu Pars and Là-bas, two widely remembered hits. Just like its predecessor, this record hasn’t chart on his own this year due to the various editions available plus the competition of the artist live, compilation and box set releases.
Tracy Chapman – Tracy Chapman (1988) : 1 335 000
An outstanding catalog sellers well into the 00s, Tracy Chapman self titled debut has been clearly slowing down lately. Selling on par with Neil Young classic album Harvest for many years, it was very different in 2016 as we will met this other album way higher than Tracy Chapman. From 2011 to 2014, performances were already weaker as the eligibility to the new Comprehensive Chart only gave it two additional chart weeks over four years. In 2015, the situation got worst with the release of Greatest Hits, which charted a bit in 2016 too. As a result, Tracy Chapman set unsurprisingly hasn’t made the Top 200 Overall chart, but it also completely failed to hit the Top 100 Catalog Chart. No doubt the album still has the strength to be reactivated if a new Tracy Chapman record comes out or with a 30th Anniversary reissue.
Patrick Bruel – Alors Regarde (1989) : 2 195 000
Once massively buzzed as the “greatest selling album ever” – although in reality it has never been – Alors Regarde was the life-changing record of actor and singer Patrick Bruel. Followed by a huge live set, the album failed to translate into a massive catalog force. It doesn’t mean the LP isn’t selling its share of copies on a yearly basis though. A regular inside Amazon.fr Top 500, the owner of each of the Top 5 tracks from the artist at Spotify is still well alive.
