The five studio albums, plus one Christmas EP, released by Taylor total an impressive 41,1 million units. More than anything, each of her five studio outputs tops the 6 million mark, an unreal achievement considering how proportionally poorly she has been selling in Europe.
With over 70% of her sales coming from the US, those figures can be regarded both ways, extraordinary or not so good, depending on the fact of if you are looking for North American results or abroad sales. Her abroad sales improved with the success of 1989 which sold more than 4 million units outside of the US.
The main doubt though is created by the specific situation of Taylor in regards to streaming. Whatever happens, her results will still be amazing. The question is, are her album sales so much higher than the remaining divas – well, minus Adele of course – because she is more popular than they are or also because pure album sales are more favorable to her? If her cumulative album sales top those of Rihanna by a few million at 41 million against 34 million, is this conclusion still true once factoring in all other formats that made the latter artist more than double her total?
