# CSPC: Ed Sheeran Popularity Analysis

###### Digital Singles Sales

Although he released only two albums, there is already 77 different songs from Ed Sheeran available on Spotify and the likes. Thinking Out Loud is the obvious signature song of his catalog with over 10 million sales alone. In spite of this domination, the large volume of tracks he participated in built a massive tally of 50,5 million downloads sold.

While the total seems impressive – to not say inflated – even more considering the artist debuted when the downloads market was started to slow down, it is fully legitimate, achieved thanks to steady and enduring sales of all his songs, including album tracks, over the course of several years. No need to say singles from x would have been much bigger download sellers a few years ago, as sales translated into streaming as we will see from the very next page.

As a reminder, the weighting is done with a 10 to 1 ratio between one album and one digital single.

Do you plan to study P!nk? Even though there’s no word about a new album, it would be interesting to see her CSPC results given she’s been active since 2000.

Hi everyone!
I reversed MJD’s formulas to determine the CSP for each track. We could interpret this as the CSP total “due to” a track, so its success.

I have calculated the top 5 below:
Song [Album] = CSP total (millions sales equivalent)

Thinking Out Loud [x] = 4,25
Photograph [x] = 2,61
The A Team [+] = 1,96
I See Fire [x] = 1,87
Don’t [x] = 1,68

4.25 millions equivalent sales is quite big. To give an idea, it’s more than any track released by Rihanna (please see here: http://chartmasters.org/2016/06/cspc-rihanna-popularity-analysis/#comment-1348).

If you have any question/remarks about the method/calculation I used to obtained these numbers, I will be pleased to answer you.
Tony

3. Wow, great numbers for Ed! Especially for X and Thinking Out Loud.

Don’t think he gets enough attention for his music career. This needed to be written. Thank you.
